2nd INTERNATIONAL MT. APO BOULDER FACE CHALLENGE

MECHANICS AND RULES

 

I. Participants and Registration

  1. The Boulder-Face Challenge is a 24-hour competition with 100% endurance test.
  2. The race will have four (4) disciplines to include mountain biking, trekking, water tubing and road running.
  3. Each team shall be composed of three (3) members regardless of gender (2 racers and 1 logistic crew).
  4. Participants should be at least 18 years of age.
  5. The team should register with the Organizer on or before April 23, 2012 at the Provincial Agri-Industrial Center (PAIC) Management Office, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur in a first-come-first-serve basis. On-line registration can also be done through www.boulderface.com.
  6. A non-refundable registration fee of PhP 5,000.00 shall be collected from each participating team.
  7. Local teams are only limited to twenty (25) and ten (10) slots will be reserved for international teams.
  8. Each team member should undergo medical check-up and submit the medical certificates prior to the event.
  9. Each participant should sign a waiver freeing the organizers from any liabilities in case untoward incidents happen during the race duration.
  10. Each team should be fully equipped with the required mandatory equipment. Any lacking prescribed equipment will mean disqualification.
  11. Briefing/orientation shall be conducted on April 27, 2011; 10:00 AM at the PAIC Management Office, Municipal Hall, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.
  12. Issued uniform with race numbers should be used during the whole race duration.
  13. Steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs are strictly prohibited.
  14. Race regulations/policies should be strictly observed.
  15. Race proper will start on April 28, 2012, 6:00 in the morning. Hence, participating teams are expected to stay in Sta. Cruz in the evening of April 27.

II. Mandatory Equipment

a. Life Vest/ Life Jacket, Head Gear and Rubber Tube (For Tubing)

. Running/Trekking Shoes (For Trekking/Running)

c. Mountain Bike and Head Gear (For Mountain Biking)

d. Head Lamp

e. Digital Camera

III. Registration and Check-In

a. Each team will be given a race bag (for gears and necessities for mountain biking stage), race number,       helmet, bike sticker and race jersey upon registration.

b. Mountain bikes and air pumps together with the race bags should be checked in on April 27 from 1:00         PM to 5:00 PM. No other bags, backpacks or any related gears will be allowed in the check-in area.

c. If in case it rains in the evening of April 27, racers may cover their mountain bikes with                              plastic/cellophane. However, participating teams must be responsible to keep the said cover before the      race starts. Covers must not be left at the transition points.

IV. Guidelines

A. Starting Line on the Actual Day of Race

1. At the bike/equipment area, racers will be given a 15-minute period for finalization of their hydration and     nutrition supplements before 5:00 AM. Marshals will do the final checking of deflated tires and other           equipment of each team.

2. No athletes’ are allowed in the check-in area after 5:00 AM.

3. All participants must in the starting line by 5:45AM.

4. The race will start at exactly 6:00 AM on April 29, 2012.

B. Photo Shoot, Race Chips and Race Map

1. The Team Captain will be given a race map to be brought from starting point to the finish line.

2. Each Team will get a Race Chips in every Check Points ( CPs) that they will be passing by. The Race           Chips should be carried by the team captain from the first check point up to the finish line.

3. The Race Chips should be submitted to the Race Director at the end of the race for consolidation.

4. The Race Chips will only be given to the marshals if the last team member arrives at the check points.

5. After the race Chips are given, one team member will take a photo of his teammate with the                     tarpaulin/poster bearing the logo of sponsor as background/backdraft.

C. Race Marshals and Logistics

1. The race will be composed of 20 Check Points (CP) and 21 Marshall Points (MP).

2. Marshals at the Check Points and Marshal Points will monitor the traffic flow of the racers and observe if       there are violations committed. Marshals can also give direction to the racers.

3. Logistic crew will be stationed at CP 2 (SIBULAN BARANGAY HALL) and will then be ferried back to CP 15       (AYALA STAFF HOUSE). Logistic crews are only allowed to give assistance to their teammates at these two     checkpoints (CP 2 and 15).

E. Mountain Biking

1. Each team should have 2 Mountain Bikes for 2 racing members.

2. Before the start of the race, the mountain bikes’ two tires will be deflated and dismantled.

3. At the start of the race, racers will assemble their mountain bikes, inflate their mountain bike tires and       then proceed to CP 1 and CP 2.

4. The logistic of each team will be deployed earlier and should be at CP2 before the race starts.

5. CP2 is the only place where racers can acquire supplies and assistance needed from their logistic crew.

6. In CP2 the racers will leave their Mountain Bikes to their logistic crew and proceed to the next stage of         the race which is trekking/running.

F. Trekking/Running

1. The racers will trek or run from CP2 up to CP13 (MT. APO PEAK CAMPSITE) passing CP3 Cabarisan, Lower     Tibolo, CP4 Tibolo Tribal House, CP5 HEDCOR Power House in Baroring River Junction, then proceed to         CP6 Tudaya Falls via Tingting, continue to CP7 Colan, Tumpis, CP8 Garoc, CP9 and CP 10 Tinikaran           Campsites, right side of the boulders (facing the peak), CP11 Gabroq E-Camp and CP12 87 Degrees           campsite.

2. After reaching CP13 the racers will descend back to Tinikaran Campsites via 87 degrees then back to           Gabroq E- Camp (left side of the boulders).

3. After reaching Tinikaran Campsites, the racers will use the old trail via Big Rock E-camp, Basakan E-           camp trail ,CP14 Tumpis until Tudaya Junction then River trek to Cabarisan (MP 19) and proceed to             CP15 (Ayala Staff House) for the next stage of the race.

G. Tree Planting

1. Upon arrival at CP 4 (Tibolo Cultural Village), racers will be tasked to plant one (1) tree each.

H. White Water Tubing

1. The participants at this stage will perform water tubing from CP15 going to CP 16 (Cebulan Bridge).

2. At this stage, the racers should see to it that mandatory equipment are still complete.

3. Logistic crew of each team should be present at CP15 to assist their team mates.

4. If racers will arrive at CP 15 during night time of April 28, 2010 (6:00 PM onward), the racers will stop at       this check point and will resume the race the following day April 29, 2011 at exactly 5:00 AM. Each team       will be dispatched with an interval of 5 minutes each. Also, their departure time will be recorded.

5. The time that will take from Starting line going to CP15 will be added to the time it consumed from CP15     going to the finish line.

I. Road Run/Trekking

1.During this stage, athletes will road run or trek from CP16 up to the finish line passing CP17 PryceGas,        CP18 Franklin Baker Company, CP19 Dolly’s Seafood’s Restaurant and CP20 Tacob Wood Craft.

J. Special Cases

1.In case of Mountain Bike breakdown/damage during the mountain biking stage, players can repair their      mountain bike by themselves or carry the whole bike up to CP2 to continue the game.

2.In case of tube damage or shallow water during water tubing stage, players can river trek provided they        are going to carry their complete mandatory equipment up to CP16.

3.In case a participating team will arrive at CP15 on the next day not earlier than 5:00 in the morning, their    time of arrival will be recorded at this checkpoint and proceed to the next stage following the manner on      how the teams were dispatched orderly.

K. Help

1. Racers can only acquire assistance from their logistic crew at CP2 and CP15 only.

2. Racers can get direction assistance from race marshals.

3. Racers can only refill water from water sources.

4. Racers can purchase medicines and food from stores along the way.

L. Finish Line

1. At the finish line, the Digital Camera/Memory Card, Race Chips and Race Map should be submitted to         the race official assigned. The race official will then record the time of arrival as soon as the complete         members of the team arrive.

2. The official time of arrival at the finish line will only be recorded as soon as the necessary things are           submitted and team members are complete.

V. Violations for Disqualification

1. Acquiring any form of outside help aside from logistic at assigned areas and the one mentioned on the       Help section.

2. Riding vehicles during RUNNING/TREKKING stage.

3. Missing a Check Point or Lacking of Race Chips.

4. Missing a photo on the designated Check point.

5. Loss of Race Chips and Race Map.

6. Non-Compliance of mandatory equipment.

7. Misguiding other participants.

8. River trekking during the Water Tubing stage is not allowed except for the special case mentioned.

9. Above mentioned violations means disqualification for the team.

VI. Disqualifications
 

1. A Disqualification Committee composed of Three Indipendent (3) members can only declare a                  disqualified team through written form.

2. A participating team will be disqualified if concrete evidence such as pictures against the racers can be         presented that a violation has been made.

3. A team can file a petition letter for disqualification against other team that commits a violation together       with evidence photos and written testimony.

4. Marshals can also file a disqualification letter to a certain team if he/she actually saw that the violation         has been committed during the time that it passes their station. Disqualification letter will be duly signed     by the two marshals stationed at their particular area.

5. All written complaints, petitions and disqualification letters from a team must contain complete details        and documentation photos on the committed violations and must be submitted upon crossing the finish      line.

6. A team cannot file a petition letter after crossing the finish line.

7. A disqualified team will not be included in the ranking which means totally out of the game.
